In
Focus: SEPTEMBER 6TH- OCTOBER 8TH, 2003

"In
Focus", which features photography and video by
multiple national and international artists, includes works by artists
Mario A., Natalia Arias, Joseph Dadoune, Alfredo de Stefano, Pascale
Guinet, Cheyco Leidman, David Levinthal, Renata Poljak, Victor Vazquez,
and Harvey Zipkin, as well as D.D.A. himself. This fresh mix of
artworks displays a duo of concepts ranging from the hyper-plastic
to the super-natural.
David
Levinthal and Cheico Leidmann, who's figures are realized through
the guise of consumer plasticity, frequently use the female form,
either as vintage toys or 1980's fashion culture. The cleanliness
inherent in public representation of the female form is shown in
the work of Natalia Arias' "Laundry-Closet". Arias' female
models find themselves as compromised occupants of spaces such as
in washing machines and closet crannies. As well, the Japanese doll-like
figures in Mario A's work find themselves in similarly precarious
situations. Victor Vazquez and Joseph Dadoune's work explain the
dichotomy between life's natural process and religious dogma. The
subjects of Harvey Zipkin find themselves in quiet contemplation
of their city surroundings, while Alfredo De Stefano's landscapes
are at the very beginning stages of technological development, with
elemental building blocks such as stones, ladders and fire. The
photos of D.D.A. are colorfully pungent, and at the same time modest
in their portrayal of the human hand's role in the piece's production.

ALSO
IN FOCUS
The
exhibition features outstanding photography flawlessly intertwined
with abstract painting. It is a rare and unique collaborative effort
between Daniel Azoulay, Director and Luky Cancio, Curator that offers
the Miami art scene an array of possibilities.
The
exhibit will feature the new work of French artist, Darlene Chauve.
Her work continues to intrigue the viewer by probing that moment
of time between one level of human existence and another. Chauve
has been exploring the fragility of the passage of time for the
past decade. After a four month refuge in her studio, in France,
Chauve has returned to the United States with a bold series of canvases
that demonstrate a high level of commitment to her everpresent theme.
Chauve's
work engages the viewer and transports him to an inner space of
calm. The artist has worked with oil in two neutral tones on to
create subtle abstract forms.
